Joey Fechtel, MA, NCC, LPC-A

Hi, I’m Joey Fechtel

I was born and raised in Texas and received my Master of Arts in Counseling from St. Edward's University. From my personal loss journey, I have felt the power of support when experiencing grief and loss. It is my privilege to be in the room working with folks finding their way along the difficult, transformative path of grief.

While my main clinical focus is around assisting clients who are adjusting to life after a loss, I also work with clients around anxiety, depression, relationship stress, trauma, PTSD, and other general mental health concerns.

I work with individuals of all ages and cherish the different perspectives of people from all walks of life. In my spare time, I enjoy Science Fiction and Fantasy novels, cooking, playing guitar, hiking, biking, listening to all kinds of music, and hanging out with my cats.

My Approach

I work with individuals, couples, families, and groups experiencing grief and loss. I collaborate closely with my clients to build a trusting relationship and explore topics ranging from anxiety, suicidal ideation, and depression to sleep, career, and loneliness concerns. I also use evidence-based approaches, including EMDR, which can help you reach your goals.

All of our challenges are part of the richness of the human experience. I embrace that richness and work to find ways to help you celebrate the uniqueness of your whole self, while being mindful of the needs we all share for connection, community, creativity, and compassion.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured form of psychotherapy that helps individuals process and resolve disturbing memories and associated emotions, thoughts, and feelings. It involves focusing on distressing memories while engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, to help the brain process and reduce the emotional intensity of those memories.

  • Existential Therapy helps individuals explore and address fundamental human concerns like meaning, freedom, isolation, and death. It emphasizes personal responsibility and the importance of making choices that align with one's values and beliefs, ultimately leading to a more authentic and meaningful life.

  • Grief Therapy addresses the emotional and psychological challenges associated with loss, whether it's the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, or other significant losses. It provides a safe and supportive environment to process grief, develop coping strategies, and navigate the various stages of grieving.

  • Individual therapy sessions are $100 - $130 per hour.

  • No, I do not currently accept any forms of insurance.

  • Yes, I am available for Telehealth appointments for clients located in Texas.

I offer in-person appointments in Austin, TX.

  • I work with folks age 10 and up.
